ENVIRONMENTAL PRODUCT DECLARATION FOR PAPERBOARD
Description
MetsäBoard Prime FBB Bright is a premium folding boxboard (FBB) offered through Ball & Doggett, with substance weights ranging from 170 to 380 g/m², produced at the Kyro mill. This Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) details its eco-profile, confirming certified ISO 14001 environmental management for wood procurement, pulp, and board production, alongside PEFC™ Chain of Custody (No. 5328-06) and FSC® Chain of Custody certifications. The mill ensures full traceability of wood origins, excluding 100% recovered paper, and adheres to ISO 22000 food safety standards, with key sites also holding FSSC 22000 for food-contact applications. Key environmental parameters include low water COD, AOX, NTot, and PTot emissions per tonne, biogenic carbon storage equivalent to specified kg CO₂ per tonne, minimized solid waste, and controlled purchased electricity use. It complies with REACH Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Directive 94/62/EC on packaging waste, CONEG Model Toxics in Packaging, and FDA guidelines (21 C.F.R. §§ 176.170/180) for aqueous, fatty, and dry food contact. Migration testing aligns with EU No. 10/2011 for PE-coated variants, supporting high-temperature uses. Ideal for visual communications, signage, and printing, this lightweight paperboard excels in retail-ready packaging, consumer goods, and food service applications. Its fresh fiber composition enables full recyclability per EN 13430 and ISO 18604, energy recovery (>50% organic content), and industrial compostability under EN 13432, ISO 18606, and ASTM D 6868. Sustainable forestry principles and supplier responsibility enhance its appeal for B2B projects prioritizing reduced environmental impact and circular economy solutions.
