IKONOS was the world's first high-resolution commercial Earth observation satellite, launched in 1999. It provided imagery with 82-cm panchromatic and 3.2-m multispectral resolution, revolutionizing access to detailed satellite images for commercial and government use. Operated by DigitalGlobe (now Maxar), IKONOS was retired in 2015 after capturing over 597,000 images covering more than 400 million km².
